Trails Repairs – $9,000 Grant
Description
The newly rejuvenated EFHG TC trails committee has been working diligently for the past two years to educate the community about the need to replace much of the 10 miles of fencing within Elfin Forest. Our mission to “educate all Elfin Forest residents about the history and importance of the existing Elfin Forest trail system and seek funding methods so proper ongoing maintenance of the trails can occur into the future.” We estimate that to replace much of the fencing, to add DG in a few areas and to replace water bars will cost in excess of $100,000.
Thus far we have received donations exceeding $5,000 and we will access approximately $9,000 in the Town Council trails account to give us $14,000 at this time. It is our hope to get to $25,000 to start work later this summer on the worst areas in the community. It is our hope to enter into a contract with Habitat West after Covid-19 slows down to do the first phase of work in late summer 2020.
Community Benefit
The trails in Elfin Forest are our sidewalks and provide beautiful linear pathways throughout our community. Our split rail fencing with our mature trees and native landscaping has established our community character. Our trails encourage outdoor recreation while providing safe off road routes for residents and their children.
It is key that they be maintained and repaired.
