Escondido Creek Conservancy

April 2020 – Cameras for Keithly Preserve – $1055

Description

The Escondido Creek Conservancy proposes to purchase four Browning Strike Force HD Pro X trail camera and security boxes with python locks. The cameras will be used as a monitoring tool for the Conservancy. Using data collected from the trail counters, previously funded by the Elfin Forest Community Foundation, the Conservancy will identify areas of high foot traffic and strategically place the cameras, to get the best results.

Over the last six months the Conservancy has received multiple reports from our amazing community members who witnessed people riding off-road vehicles on the roads and trails at Keithley Preserve (previously known as Los Cielos), night bike rides, camping and reports of potential shooting. All these events have one thing in common: they took place after hours, either in the evening/night or over the weekend, when staff was not present. The use of trail cameras will improve the monitoring of the preserve by giving the Conservancy staff an extra set of eyes on the ground.

The Conservancy purchased a Browning trail camera in the past and they capture magnificent picture and video quality. The price of Browning trail cameras is a fraction of other brands like Bushnell and Reconyx but deliver similar or better results.

Community Benefit

Keithley Preserve is an amenity to the Elfin Forest community, providing open space, nature viewing and recreational opportunities to its residents. Images captured with trail cameras in combination with community reports and the consistent Conservancy monitoring will provide a safer environment for people and wildlife.
