The 2014 Coco’s Fire ran through Harmony Grove and took trees with it. The Spiritualist Association’s grounds sit in the middle of that landscape. The Association asked for help replacing natives, removing burned material, and fixing a drip system. Neighbors donated labor. The Foundation paid $4,000 for plants and irrigation. We prefer Coast Live Oak and chaparral species. We do not fund pepper trees. This grant is the native-plant policy in practice, on a slope everyone drives past.
What the community got
Burned non-natives came out. Coast live oak and chaparral species went in. A drip line was repaired so the planting would live through the first dry summers.
